Shevchenko and the Kiev Pectoral Prize - Lydia Yaremchuk in the play “Marriages Take Place in Heaven ...” based on the staging, created by her on the basis of pages from Leo Tolstoy’s novel War and Peace.
The central performance line is Natasha Rostova’s story. The version narrated by the expressive language of the performing arts brings new colours to the usual notion of heroin. Lidia Yaremchuk, the actor and the author of the composition, shows Natasha’s internal world in a sensitive, slightly sad, ironic, and admiring way.
Young Natasha is so natural, so careless and sincere. The success at the first ball seems to her the fulfilment of all the girlish hopes, which will surely be followed by a dizzying takeoff. Each her breath is filled with the joyful anticipation of happiness...
Time and life experience make some corrections to people’s destiny, sometimes absolutely changing their nature. Or, maybe everything was different? Maybe the maturity discovers the real human nature? Otherwise, how we can explain the paradox of turning sensitive and romantic Natasha into the earthy and busy mother and housewife? But it seems that she is good with that unpoetical role.
What mystery was hidden in Natasha Rostova character making men’s hearts beating faster? Why they found her charming?
She could be herself, he could love. Despite of her previous mistakes, she was always open to life and feelings. And, the most important, she represented one of the mysterious eternal feminine things.
A subtle, profound display of the thoughts and feelings of a young woman allows the viewer to not only take a fresh look at the image of Natasha Rostova, but also to touch the beautiful, forever gone historical era described in the novel.
