Performances at Lesya Ukrainka Drama Theatre

Our website features the current playbill with all the performances now showing at Lesya Ukrainka Drama Theatre. You can buy tickets online, learn more about the actors, and view production photos in the description of each show listed in the playbill.

One of the theatre’s latest premieres is “The Ferryman”, a family saga set against the backdrop of a nation’s struggle for identity, unearthing haunting family secrets from the past. The emotionally charged drama “Brothers” explores the strength and fragility of family ties, raising vital questions about choice, love, and betrayal. “The Jacaranda Blossom” is a poetic tale of true love, resilience, and indomitable spirit. “Warsaw Melody” is a lyrical drama about a chance encounter between a former soldier and a future singer. “The Wave” tells a story that remains universally relevant, unfolding during a striking experiment led by a school history teacher. “Translations”, based on the play by a renowned Irish playwright, examines choice, human dignity, love, and the peril of crossing the line where one loses oneself. “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” sensitively narrates the journey of a boy with autism who teaches the adults around him how to truly love. And of course, Shakespeare: “Othello”, the timeless story of deceit and jealousy leading to a tragic end; and “Juliet and Romeo”, a testament to love’s power, stronger even than death.

Today, the theatre’s repertoire includes a diverse selection of performances based on classicUkrainian literature. Each production, whether traditional or reimagined in a modern way, offers a compelling interpretation that invites reflection on national identity. “Three Loves” delves into the intimate life and lyrical poetry of Lesya Ukrainka. “Myna Mazaylo” is a satirical comedy about renouncing one’s language and culture – a theme still relevant today. “The Star. Beginning”, based on Starytskyi’s “Talent”, tells the story of those who founded Ukrainian theatre. “Stolen Happiness” is a powerful drama about tragic love and moral choices. “Stefanyk. Short Stories” explores the depths of human existence through the works of Ukraine’s most famous short story writer, balancing between beauty and grotesque, tears and laughter, good and evil, life and death. “Ukraine in Flames” confronts the tragedy of Ukraine’s wartime suffering and leaves a profound emotional impact on audiences. “For the Hearth” is a crime drama by Ivan Franko, inspired by real sensational trials in 19th-century Lviv, placing both characters and viewers before difficult moral decisions. “Dinner with a Fool” is a fast-paced farce full of unexpected twists. “The Nameless Star” is a lyrical comedy about lonely souls searching for happiness, for their “star.” “The Name” begins as a casual dinner among friends but quickly turns into an intense emotional showdown.

Buy tickets for family and children’s shows

You can also purchase tickets for performances designed to captivate children and teenagers just as much as adults. “Treasure Island” is an adventurous thriller for the whole family – an exciting journey into the world of pirates in search of hidden treasure. Also noteworthy is “The Wizard”, based on L. Frank Baum’s beloved fantasy tale “The Wizard of Oz”. How do we find ourselves? What is true friendship? Are miracles possible? These and other questions are explored by the characters. Tickets for this and other shows are available online on our website.
