The production “The Master Builder”, created by director Dmytro Bohomazov and designer-scenographer Petro Bohomazov, offers a distinctive, finely honed interpretation of one of Henrik Ibsen’s most remarkable works of Norwegian classical drama, reimagined in a contemporary theatrical idiom.
The staging will appeal both to those only beginning to explore the world of modern theatre and to seasoned theatregoers who follow artistic experiment with close attention.
Halvard Solness is a celebrated architect. His career is soaring, yet an ever-growing fear gnaws at him: the gifted younger generation may eclipse him. One day, a mysterious young woman, Hilda Wangel, appears in his studio – and with her come the shadows of a buried past. A swift and perilous struggle begins, as he attempts to make sense of what once befell him.
What truly happened ten years ago, when Solness and Hilda first met? Why do three empty children’s rooms stand untouched in the home of a childless couple? And upon what unsettling foundations has Solness built his success?
Confronted with the truth, the characters find themselves teetering on the very edge of reality – to the point of vertigo. A fatal vertigo.
