This interpretation of the play “Oh, Hryts, Don’t Go Out…” by Mykhailo Starytsky relocates the familiar story of love and betrayal to the outskirts of a modern city – a place where emotions quickly become weapons, and the struggle for attention and significance often matters more than the truth.
At the centre of the story is Marusia. Around her are several men, each with his own truth, weakness, and way of proving his love. There are no heroes here in the conventional sense – only people trying to maintain control over the situation, over others, and over themselves. At times it may seem amusing; at others, painfully familiar.
The intimate stage space concentrates the action around a single object – a photo booth, which becomes not merely part of everyday life, but also a symbol: the illusion of closeness, the need to be seen, and the fear of being recognised.
This is a story about the desire to matter and the fear of becoming nobody. And about the moment when it is already too late – because everyone has made their choice.
