The play of the modern playwright of Ukrainian origin, Asia Kotlyar (real name Maya Tarakhovska), with the permission of the author, adapted and refined for the production the daughter of an outstanding director Leonid Varpakhovsky - the brilliant theaterand movie actress Anna Varpakhovska. Tragicomedy is the favourite genre of that actress she literally “bathes” in that. Working on the dramatic material “Our Kitchen” in line with the manifestation of his brightest incarnation on the stage, Anna Varpakhovska particularly sharpened the verge of the tragicomic beginning, because she was sure: humour and tragedy in life are inseparable, and the more closely they are intertwined, the brighter and deeper they are perceived as a joke and dramatic events.

The play “Our Kitchen” immerses the audience in the recent past of the twentieth century, with all its peripeteia and proper circumstances and signs of the Soviet era: repression, slander, bans, hunger, fear, war, communal apartments, queues for everything and everyone ...

That is why (which is extremely symbolic!) the action of the play unfolds in the old common kitchen of a dilapidated house, which is being prepared for demolition. The whole life of two women, a Russian and a Jew, is about that kitchen. And that old common kitchen (some kind of Universe) means the world to them and symbolizes the bygone era.

Kindness, humanity and compassion, which are able to win everything, are knocking at the hearts of the audience throughout the performance, leaving, nevertheless, incredible light and faith in a person!
