One must be exceedingly careful with antique clocks, for time is a delicate and capricious thing! One careless movement – and suddenly a dignified grey-haired gentleman finds himself back in his own past, face to face with his younger self…
How often, lamenting the present, do we dream of returning to that fateful day when we made life-altering decisions – to live that moment differently, to let life take an entirely different course? How marvellous it would be, in one’s youth, to choose with the wisdom of one’s sixty-year-old self!
Which is better – a bird in the hand or a crane in the sky?
Which matters more – one girl’s pregnancy or another’s very life?
Which is nobler – to devote oneself to the well-being of loved ones or to pursue the boldest of career ambitions?
And, after all: are we truly free, or merely at the mercy of fate?
Not knowing it – that is the human tragedy.
