What do we lose when we dare to face the truth – an illusion, or what is most precious? One can live for years in a world where everything appears right: words of love, familiar habits, an orderly family life. And then, suddenly, it becomes clear that this is not life at all, but merely a role.
On the eve of Christmas, a drama unfolds in the family of the lawyer Torvald Helmer – the drama of Nora, a devoted wife and caring mother, whose apparent lightness conceals a courageous act. Once, in order to save her husband, she secretly borrowed money, forging her father’s signature. This step, born of love and bravery, gradually reveals a bitter truth: the world Nora inhabits is built not on trust, but on power and fear.
At the heart of the production are questions that remain urgent today: love without freedom, a woman’s right to be herself, the boundary between duty and the right to one’s own life. When the truth comes to light, Nora takes a step towards inner freedom – painful, yet necessary. Does it bring freedom, or does it forever deprive her of what is called happiness?
Yuliia Lobanovska: “‘A Doll’s House’ is about the illusions that keep us trapped, and about the courage to take the first step towards oneself.”
